Online Travel Vietnam: One buffalo charged into the spectators at the annual buffalo fighting festival in northern Hai Phong City’s Do Son District yesterday morning, injuring 5 people.
The buffalo managed to escape from its owner's control and then attacked viewers, witnessed said.
All the victims were taken to the Do Son District Hospital for emergency treatment but two of them, with severe wounds, were later transferred to the Viet - Tiep Friendship Hospital for surgery.
Le Van Lien, 47, had some muscles and ligaments in the legs fractured while Bui Van Dong, 33, suffered serious injuries in the bladder, unitary tract, and anus.
The three other victims were discharged from the hospital in the afternoon.
The Vietnam Coal and Minerals Group, which paid insurance for the viewers, have given compensations to the victims, said Hoang Trung Hieu, deputy chairman of the district People's Committee and head of the organizing board of the event.
Nearly 10,000 people from across the country flocked to Do Son yesterday to enjoy the attractive face-off fights between 32 buffaloes in the qualifying round, Hieu said.
Sixteen winners in the round will enter their final round on September 6, he added.
